After reading English Literature at Durham University - Nathan won a Scholarship to the prestigious Guildford School Of Acting, where he received a 1st Class Honours Degree in Musical Theatre in 2005.
He has gone on to work extensively as a performer, making his West End debut in 2009 playing Mary Sunshine in hit musical “Chicago” alongside Michelle Williams from Destiny’s Child and talk-show legend Jerry Springer. Other highlights include performing Number 1 Pantomimes with Variety Legends The Krankies and The Chuckle Brothers and Bradley Walsh; performing around the world on P&O’s MV Oriana; and playing Tony Blair in Total Edinburgh Fringe Sellout “Tony Blair The Musical” to critical acclaim.
Before the Covid Lockdown Nathan was rehearsing “Orpheus” - a house music opera being staged at London’s Young Vic Theatre - keep your eye peeled for its' premier in 2021.
After creating many ‘female’ roles on stage Nathan was persuaded to enter national competition Drag Idol UK 2013 - Britain’s search for the next drag superstar. He was first runner-up and Topsie Redfern was catapulted onto the UK Cabaret Circuit going onto win Best Drag Newcomer in the 2014 Boyz Scene Awards.
Topsie is a regular and popular fixture in some of the UK’s most celebrated Cabaret Venues with regular International appearances. She has a residency at ultra-cool cocktail bar Cellar Door in the heart of London’s theatreland. She’s even made an appearance, recently in a Vodafone advert.
Topsie is a popular host of Drag Queen Storytime sessions, reading to families and young people in schools and libraries throughout the UK. Topsie regularly performs at social lunch schemes aimed at reducing isolation for the elderly and vulnerable in London such as Jackson's Lane Social Lunches, Broadway Brunches Harringay, East London Cares & Wandworth LGBT Forum Coffee Morning.
After playing Mark in the two-hander play "Lipstick: Fairytale Of Iran" last year Nathan is currently collaborating with its' Playwright and Director Sarah Chew on two new projects. Firstly, "Topsie Redfern's Crystal Balls" - an exploration of his Irish Traveller heritage and story of queer self-acceptance (2021 dates to be announced shortly). Secondly, a Drag Cabaret Show for children commissioned by Stratford Story Centre. Also collaborating is actor and Drag King Lucy Jane Parkinson (LoUIs CYfer).
Nathan has been a workshop leader and director for Theatre Tribe Workshops - staging musicals with groups of 6-16 year olds for the past decade.
Topsie is an extremely proud Ambassador of UK charity Cancer Is A Drag and regularly works with London based HIV Charity The Food Chain Charity.
